PDRM, Australian police collaborate to trace drug source linked to Malaysian arrest

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Narcotics Crime Investigation Department is working closely with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to identify the source of drugs linked to a Malaysian man arrested in Australia.

It was reported that the 45-year-old man was detained after Australian Border Force (ABF) officers discovered drugs hidden inside a computer in a cargo shipment on Oct 16.

Federal Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Khaw Kok Chin confirmed the arrest, saying that Malaysian authorities were now working with Australian authorities to trace the origin of the drugs.

"We confirm the arrest of the Malaysian national, and we are cooperating with Australian authorities to determine where the drugs came from," he said when contacted today.

It was reported the man was arrested by the AFP on suspicion of smuggling 100kg of methamphetamine into the country.

In a statement, the AFP confirmed the seizure of 100kg of methamphetamine but did not disclose the estimated value.

They said ABF officers removed the drugs before allowing the shipment to proceed.

"The shipment was sent to a storage unit in Kingsgrove (south of Sydney) on Oct 30 before it was collected by the suspect," police said.
