Police rule out foul play in lost bag containing RM1 mil case

SHAH ALAM: Police have ruled out foul play in the case of a bag containing RM1 million in cash that fell out of a security van near a shopping complex in Ampang recently.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the findings were based on witness statements and footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras along the route taken by the van that day.

Hussein added that the van's occupants only realised the bag was missing when they arrived at a bank in Kuala Lumpur after collecting the money from a bank at Ampang Point.

"Based on our investigation so far no elements of theft or robbery were found," he told reporters at the state police headquarters today.

He said witness statements and CCTV footage revealed the back door of the van opened when the vehicle maneuvered a corner near the Ampang - Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH) on the ramp.

"This reveals that there is elements of negligence in ensuring the door was shut properly.

"We have handed over the investigation paper to the deputy public prosecutor for further action," he said.

He added that the money was currently being held by the police as they await further instructions.

It was reported that the bag containing RM1 million cash which fell out of a security van near Ampang Point was found and handed over to police the same day it went missing.

It was reported that a security company had lost a bag containing RM1 million in cash.

The cash had been collected from a bank in Ampang Point on Nov 6.

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail was reported saying they received a report on the matter yesterday evening.
