Man to be charged for filing false police report to avoid fine

SUBANG JAYA: A 25-year-old man will be charged in court tomorrow for lodging a false police report to avoid paying a fine for not carrying his identification card.

The man, who works as a salesperson, allegedly claimed that he was robbed at knifepoint by two men on a motorcycle in USJ 14/1D around 1am on Nov 13, with the suspects making off with valuables worth RM200.

However, police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said investigations revealed the robbery did not occur.

"The complainant filed a false report because he had lost his identification card and wanted to avoid paying the fine," he said.

The case is being investigated under Sections 182, 395, and 397 of the Penal Code.

"The deputy public prosecutor has directed that the complainant be charged under Section 182, and he will be brought to court on Nov 15," Wan Azlan added.

The police reminded the public not to make false reports.

"It is an offence under Section 182 of the Penal Code, punishable by up to six months in prison, a RM2,000 fine, or both," he said.
