KULAI: Police are tracking down a man suspected of molesting a 12-year-old girl whom his wife was babysitting.
District police chief Superintendent Tan Seng Lee said the suspect, in his 50s, is believed to have committed the act last year.
"We received a report on Wednesday about the incident. The victim had gone to the hospital for treatment for depression," he said in a statement.
Tan said the victim informed the medical officer attending to her that she had been molested.
The case is being probed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act for sexual assault which carries a maximum 20 years prison sentence and whipping upon conviction.
