KUANTAN: Scam victims should immediately contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) hotline by dialling 997 as they might have a chance to recover the stolen funds or reduce further potential losses.
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said upon realising they have been duped or fallen victim to a scam syndicate, the victim must quickly report to the NSRC within 24 hours.
"Call the NSRC before going to lodge a police report as the victim might have a chance to recover the stolen money.
"Upon informing NSRC, it will help the authorities to freeze the bank account, intercept the stolen funds and victims might have a chance to recover their losses," he told reporters after attending the Pahang police monthly gathering at the police contingent headquarters here today.
Yahaya reminded the public that NSRC is a one-way communication call centre which only receives calls from victims and does not call any individuals.
Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf had previously warned the public not to become victims of syndicates impersonating as NSRC officers.
In his speech earlier, Yahaya said the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department had successfully made 13,010 arrests for various drug-related offences in the first 10 months of this year.
"A total of 11,729 investigation papers were opened while the Op Indera successfully dismantled 11 active drug distribution syndicates with 18 arrests. A total of 691 cases were prosecuted under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
"As for actions against dealers under the Special Preventive Measures (LLPK), 72 arrests were made compared to only 40 last year," he said.
