KUALA LUMPUR: Another suspect believed to be involved in the murder of a restaurant cashier at a Cheras shopping complex last month has been arrested.
City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said that the eighth suspect, a 34-year-old woman and also a Chinese national, was detained near KL Sentral at around 4.30pm on Tuesday.
"A team of investigators from the City police contingent arrested the 34-year-old woman, also a Chinese national, outside a convenience store near KL Sentral at about 4.30pm," he said.
Rusdi said the motive of the stabbing has yet to be determined as investigations are still ongoing.
"We will apply for a remand from the court today (Dec 5)," he said.
On Nov 30, it was reported that the victim, a 49-year-old Chinese national, was believed to have been stabbed multiple times in the incident that took place between 3pm and 4pm.
Police will apply for an extension of the remand for the seven suspects previously arrested, as their remands are set to end tomorrow (Dec 6).
The seven suspects include two Chinese men, four Myanmar nationals (two of whom are women), and a local man.
He added that a preliminary post mortem report indicated the cause of death was severe injury to the chest and excessive bleeding.
"The case is still under police investigation and anyone with information regarding the case is urged to come forward and facilitate police investigation," Rusdi said.
