KUALA LUMPUR: Police confirmed that they have received a report regarding a 10-year-old pupil who was allegedly abused by his school teacher.
Johor Baru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the report was lodged by a 23-year-old local man.
"The report alleged that a male pupil was hit by a teacher in a computer laboratory at a school in Johor Baru.
"In the incident, the victim sustained bruising and pain to the right side of his cheek," he said in a statement today (Dec 6).
Raub said an investigation would be conducted once an order was obtained from the deputy public prosecutor.
He said the cause of the incident was not known, and the police would be taking statements from witnesses.
"The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code, and if convicted, the accused may face imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
"Members of the public who have any information related to the incident are encouraged to contact the Johor Baru South police hotline at 07-218 2323," he said.
Earlier, a post by Facebook user Herman Sudi claimed that the pupil from a children's home here had complained of physical abuse by his school teacher.
The alleged assault at the boy's school had left him with visible bruises on his face. He claimed that the pupil had no parents and was living in a community welfare home.
