RANTAU PANJANG: Two smugglers were arrested in separate incidents near the Malaysia-Thailand border involving Thai junk food products.
In the first case, a 42-year-old suspect was detained yesterday for smuggling Thai junk food worth about RM11,000.
The suspected smuggler was driving a car when he was detained by General Operations Force personnel at Rantau Panjang.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the suspect was arrested at Kak Mah illegal jetty about 6.30am.
"The GOF personnel were conducting their normal duty when spotted a suspected car just leaving Kak Mah illegal jetty.
"After stopping the car, they found boxes containing various types of junk food believed to have been smuggled from Thailand," he said.
In another incident, a woman was arrested in Pasir Mas last night for possessing Thai snack items valued at nearly RM3,000.
The 46-year-old woman who was driving a car was detained at Jeram Perdah here at about 10.30pm.
"The Thai junk foods were believed for local distribution," he added.
