Man high on wanted list shot dead in shootout with Kelantan police [WATCH]

PASIR PUTEH: A 31-year-old man, high on the police wanted list for involvement in various offences including drug abuse, was shot dead by this morning.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the suspect was killed in a shootout with the police at Jalan Jeram Pasu at around 5.30am.

"A police team followed the suspect's car after spotting it in the Melor area of Kota Baru.

"When the car reached Jalan Jeram Pasu, the police attempted to stop it, but the suspect opened fire on them.

"The suspect, a local man, was killed on the spot during the incident," he told reporters when met at the scene.

Mohd Yusoff added police found a semi-automatic firearm, a fake pistol, a parang, and a packet of dried tobacco inside the suspect's car.

He said preliminary investigations showed that the suspect, one of the most wanted criminals in the state, had 24 records for crimes and drug-related offences.

He added that the body was sent to Pasir Puteh Hospital for post-mortem.
