ISKANDAR PUTERI: Instead of delivering a parcel, a 38-year-old delivery worker allegedly helped herself to items she fancied, which led to her arrest for parcel theft at an apartment block here.
District police chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan, said the woman was arrested after a report was lodged by a 42-year-old man on Dec 11. The suspect, with no prior criminal records and having tested negative for drugs, was caught with RM37 worth of skincare products that was meant to be delivered.
It is learnt that she went to the address to deliver the items, gave proof of delivery to the recipient, and then left – with the parcel.
Kumarasan said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was caught in her first attempt at parcel theft.
Police found two bottles of cleansing water, a box of avocado plant extract wet wipes, and two bottles of lotion. She was remanded for five days to facilitate investigations for theft in a building, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment and a possible fine upon conviction.
