'Pinching' daycare teacher pleads guilty to abusing baby

KLANG: A daycare teacher pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court today to charges of allegedly abusing an 11-month-old baby at a daycare centre in Puncak Alam.

"I plead guilty and promise I won't do it again. Today is my wedding day, and tomorrow is my reception," said Nur Suhadah Saharudin, 24, as she sought a reduction in her bail.

The charge was read out by the court interpreter before Judge Nurul Mardhiah Mohamed Redza.

According to the charge, Suhadah was accused of abusing the baby by pinching his cheeks and ears, causing physical injury.

The incident occurred on Dec 13 at around 6.15pm at the daycare centre in Puncak Alam.

She was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison or a fine not exceeding RM50,000, or both.

The accused, who was not represented by a lawyer, appealed for a reduction in her bail amount for the offence.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Azamuddin Razak requested Dec 24 for the mention of case facts and sentencing at the Kuala Selangor Court.

"The prosecution proposes bail of RM15,000 with two sureties, in addition to the passport being handed over to the court and that the accused does not interfere with prosecution witnesses," he said.

The court set bail at RM10,000 with one surety.

"If there are any complaints about interference with the victim, the bail will be revoked immediately," the judge warned.
