PETALING JAYA: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has filed a defamation suit against blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as "Papagomo".
Razarudin, as the plaintiff, filed the suit against the blogger regarding a statement uploaded via a video on YouTube and TikTok, which was also disseminated on other social media platforms.
Lawyer Raam Kumar, who represents Razarudin, said the suit was filed on Dec 26 at the High Court here through Messrs K.B Tan, Kumar & Partners.
He said the suit was served to Papagomo, who was named as the defendant, yesterday.
"Therefore, the plaintiff is claiming damages for verbal defamation, written defamation, general damages, aggravated or exemplary damages, and special damages.
"The plaintiff has also sought an injunction order to prevent the defendant, whether personally, through employees, or any other party, from issuing defamatory statements or words, as well as from publishing or facilitating the re-publication of the defamatory statements," he said.
In addition, Raam said, the plaintiff also demanded that the defendant retract the defamatory statement or delete and destroy all videos, publications, messages or materials that are defamatory by the defendant.
"The plaintiff also demanded that the defendant make an apology and retract the slanderous statement through all social media and online media accounts, with the content of the apology having to be agreed upon by the plaintiff first," he said.
Meanwhile, Razarudin, when contacted, confirmed the legal suit but declined to elaborate further.
It was reported that police had recorded a statement from Wan Muhammad Azri regarding his allegedly defamatory and insulting remarks against the Inspector-General of Police and the security forces.
Wan Muhammad Azri had his statement recorded on Dec 19 at the Setapak police station.
The case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, Sections 500 and 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
