34 bone fragments found on Batu Buruk Beach, investigation underway

KUALA TERENGGANU: A total of 34 pieces of bone fragments, believed to be human remains, were discovered on Batu Buruk Beach 2 near here last night.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said police were alerted to the discovery at 10pm yesterday.

He explained that the information came from a phone call made by a member of the public, and a police report was filed for further investigation.

He added that investigations were carried out by the district Criminal Investigation Department at the scene, alongside the Forensic Team.

"The fragments were found in a bushy area next to a dry, waterless drain, along the beach, approximately 40 meters from the high tide mark," he said.

"The location is behind the abandoned Public Works Department quarters, which are no longer inhabited," he added.

He further explained that when the investigation team arrived, the area was dark.

"A total of 34 pieces of bone fragments were found and collected for further investigation," he said.

The bones will be sent to the Pathology Unit and the Chemistry Department for further examination.

He also mentioned that further investigations would be conducted to determine whether the area was an old burial site or private property.

"The effort to identify the remains will depend on the results of medical and chemical examinations, such as gender, time of death, and other details that will be obtained later," he said.

The case is classified as a sudden death investigation.
