Singaporean man injured in parang attack endured three days of harassment, wife claims

KLUANG: A Singaporean man was injured in a parang attack in Kampung Tengah here early yesterday, after enduring harassment from his attackers for several days.

The man was in Kluang with his Malaysian wife for the Chinese New Year celebrations and was injured while defending his family from the attackers.

His wife, Fang, told China Press that two men had harassed them for three consecutive days during the Chinese New Year.

The 42-year-old hairstylist alleged that the men set off firecrackers, splashed paint outside their house, and damaged two cars.

She said they had no choice but to retaliate, with wooden rods to protect themselves.

During the altercation, her husband suffered injuries to his head, ankle, chest, and arms.

"We do not owe any loan sharks nor have we taken any loans from them," she said.

Her mother claimed a similar pattern of harassment occurred in 2023 and last year. The family had lodged several police reports.

She urged those who have conflicts with their family, to come forward and explain their actions.

"If they have targeted the wrong family, they need to stop now," she added.

On Friday, two men wearing balaclavas, armed with metal rods and possibly a parang, were captured by closed circuit television damaging two cars outside the house, at 5.50am.

Hearing the commotion, three men from the household armed themselves with rods and confronted the attackers.

Fang said her husband, father and brother managed to subdue and tie up one of the attackers after he fell.

From him, they learned that he was paid RM200 to harass them.

Meanwhile, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh declined to elaborate on Fang's allegations.

He said investigations are underway to establish the motive behind the attack.

One suspect who tested positive for methamphetamine, was arrested 20 minutes later at the scene after the attack. He also has two criminal records and five drug offences.

The suspect's remand order will be extended when it expires tomorrow, Bahrin said when contacted today.

He added police had identified two other men believed to be the accomplices of the suspect in custody.

"Investigations are underway to flush them out from their hiding," he said.
