Khairy accepts 4 motions from Youth Parliament 2017-2018

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin have accepted four motions from the second sitting of the Youth Parliament 2017-2018 session which ends today.

The two-day sitting involved 138 youth parliament members, comprising representatives from parliament seats across the country.

In his winding-up speech at the Dewan Rakyat, Khairy said all the motions would be brought to the Cabinet and related federal agencies.

Among others, the motions include a proposal for the government to strengthen implementation of its Reproductive and Social Health Education (PEERS) and recognise Electronic Sports (ESPORT) as part of its National Transformation Plan 2050 (TN50).

Khairy also addressed a motion that the proposal for a recreations hub to be built in each state nationwide.

"The government welcomes the proposed youth recreation hub but there are already many facilities that have been built in the urban and rural areas throughout the country.

"In addition, there are programmes that are implemented in every facility that has been developed.

"Therefore, the government is of the view that it is good if all parties can maximise the use of existing facilities rather than build new facilities that will involve higher financial implications," he said.

The motion to handle issues related to the Rohingya conflicts was also raised at the Youth Parliament session.

"The youth parliament session is a platform for youths to voice their ideas and views in tandem with current issues.

"This session also seeks to create a connection or channel between the youths and the government to assist in addressing issues.

"The Youth and Sports Ministry is also confident that this platform will be able to prepare youths today as potential future leaders of the country and to keep them updated with developing issues," said Khairy.
