KUALA LUMPUR: The government has proposed to allocate RM24 billion under the 2021 Budget to enable full contribution for the Employment Injury Scheme under the Social Security Organisation (Socso).
Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the proposal will benefit some 100,000 workers from five categories.
The group of workforce that are expected to benefit from the proposal included volunteers with armed forces reserves, police reserves, volunteers with the Civil Defence Force and volunteers with the Malaysian Maritime.
"Other groups that will benefit from the proposal included takmir teachers, imam, bilal, siak (mosque helper), (mosque) noja (supervisor) and 'merbut', as well as public sector workers with the status of contract for service," he said in his speech during the tabling of the 2021 Budget.
The government today also paid tribute to the contribution of delivery raiders, who Zafrul described, as among frontliners during the implementation of the various types of the movement control orders.
"This initiative (the proposal) is expected to benefit 40,000 delivery riders," he said.
