Najib to address FGV issue tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will address questions regarding the Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) boardroom tussle, at a Felda event tomorrow.

Speaking at a press conference after chairing the Umno Supreme Council meeting today, Najib, when asked to give his views on the matters, said, "I will comment on it tomorrow.

"I will give my comments tomorrow as I am going to a Felda trip in Johor," he replied when asked to comment further.

On Tuesday, FGV chief executive officer and president Datuk Zakaria Arshad, along with three other officers, were abruptly asked to go on leave amid a boardroom tussle.

Zakaria late urged the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) to probe into FGV's dealings.

On Thursday, MACC officers visited the FGV headquarters in Menara Felda and seized various documents for their investigation.

Since then, former minister Datuk Seri Idris Jala has been appointed as an independent third party to obtain the facts of the case.

Reports last week suggested that the rift between chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad and Zakaria had stemmed over a late payment involving Afghan company Safitex for palm oil products supplied by FGV subsidiary, Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd.

Zakaria early this week had denied any wrongdoing and said the arrangement with Safitex was approved and implemented by his predecessor, according to a letter sighted by the New Straits Times.

Isa had yesterday said Zakaria would be issued a showcause letter over the company's dealings with Safitex, once internal investigations are completed.
