Sada distributes 1.5 million litres of water daily to Kedahans since 1st day of Hari Raya

ALOR STAR: Kedah water utility company Syarikat Air Darul Aman Sdn Bhd (Sada) distributed about 1.5 million litres of water daily to areas hit by water shortage during the first three days of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Sada chief executive officer Datuk Abd Ghani @ Zulkifli Zainuddin said a total of 102 tankers were used to deploy water to the affected areas.

He said Sada is working round the clock during the festive holidays to ensure those celebrating Hari Raya can enjoy the occasion without the need to worry about water problem.

“So far the operation is running smoothly, our team performs between six to seven trips daily to send water to the affected areas,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He said Sada had earlier projected that they would need to deploy a total of 127 tankers to send 2.2 million litres of water daily during the festive holidays.

However, the amount was reduced thanks to the recent heavy downpour which helped fill the Tupah reservoir and also the availability of water pumps at four areas that Sada has listed among its hot spots.

“Prior to the Hari Raya holidays, the Tupah reservoir was running dry and it had affected residents in the surrounding area and also Tanjung Dawai.

“Luckily, the heavy rain during the last few days of Ramadan helped to fill the Gunung Jerai catchment area which channelled water to the reservoir,” he said.

Ghani also said four water pumps projects in Lembah Arang, Felda Bukit Tembaga, Kampung Keda Pasir Putih and Kampung Naka Nambua, completed before the festive holidays thus helped to solve water issues in those areas.
