Religion, spirituality aspects important for nation-building: Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said religion and spirituality are important aspects for the development of a nation.

In his blog, najibrazak.com today, he said it was important to improve the understanding of different faiths through education as shared by netizens pertaining to the 2050 National Transformation #TN50 aspirations.

He said the suggestions provided by social media users were very encouraging and reflected the enthusiasm and support given by Malaysians.

Using the tag #TN50, he said netizens pointed out that better understanding among the diverse cultures and faiths will promote unity among Malaysians.

Nastasha Nor Jaafar, according to Najib suggested that the Moral studies in schools be restructured and implemented with religious elements to help better understand the diverse cultures in the country.

Another social media user, Joshua Chan recommended that more interfaith dialogues be organised as a platform for people to discuss and exchange opinions on issues and topics regarding any religion in a relaxed and casual setting.

Cynthia proposed that religious institutions such as temples, mosques and gurdwara arrange activities and programmes that include all faiths to join which will lessen the gap between them and the people.

Meanwhile, another social media user, Ahmad Khalid Yong said Muslims should refer to the Al-Quran teachings not only for knowledge but also research and development (R&D).

“Alhamdulillah, the country has been actively upholding the Al-Quran in Malaysia where our Wasyyatiah (moderation) approach to the establishment of the Nasyrul Al- Quran Complex in Putrajaya which makes us the second biggest distributor and printer of the holy book after Saudi Arabia,” said Najib in response to Ahmad’s suggestion.

“When we are strong in our faith towards the religion, it will indirectly create a responsible person who will want to maintain peace and harmony in the country,” he said.
