MAHB explains: No segregation of male female passengers

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) clarified today that it has never implemented any segregation between male and female passengers during its security screening process as policy.

In responding to the issue posted by a blogger, the situation occurred from time to time on isolated basis as a matter of expediency.

"It happens when there are insufficient numbers of female aviation security officers on certain shifts.

"The Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for security inspection states that security inspection on a passenger must be performed by a personnel of the same gender," it said in a statement today.

Last week, a blogger posted that the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) was implementing male and female segregation during security screening.

The blogger claimed the segregation which was a 'new policy' by MAHB, was ineffective in clearing the long queues at the airport.

"The female queue was longer than the men's. The security personnel to screen the male remained idle after clearing the male passengers," she added.

MAHB expressed regret for any inadvertent inconvenience caused to passengers.

"We value the feedback given. We will strive to find ways in which to make our security screening process more efficient and ensure a more joyful experience for our passengers," it added.
