KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 10,000 notices were issued to youths born in 1997, 1998 and 1999 to enrol in the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) 2.0.
The National Service Training Department (JLKN), in statement today, said that the first and mandatory phase of the PLKN 2.0 programme which last for about eight weeks, has started today and will run until September 13. It is currently conducted at 27 PLKN camps nationwide.
“The selection of trainees was conducted with the collaboration of the Education Ministry and is based on several criteria including their physical health, interest to participate in PLKN including the second phase (which focuses in skills training) and consent from the parents.
“The selection was also conducted based on voluntary applications which can be made through the department’s official portal, www.khidmatnegara.gov.my and during public exhibitions.
“Only those who are truly interested will apply to enrol in the programme and there will be no more issues of them being forced,” read the statement.
JLKN deputy director-general (Operations) Col Abd Malik Jiran officiated the programme at Bangunan Zetro here today.
Over 800 trainees are expected to gather to report to their respective camps.
