PUTRAJAYA: A heavy downpour did not deter Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) settlers from celebrating Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's birthday at the national-level Felda Settlers’ Day 2017 celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya here this morning.
Najib, clad in a blue baju Melayu, addressed the crowd and announced a few new perks for Felda settlers, before he was ushered to cut a birthday cake made out of yellow glutinous rice on stage.
The crowd also sang a birthday song and read a simple prayer for his long life and prosperity.
Najib, who turned 64 today, was born to former Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein and Toh Puan Rahah Mohamad Noah in Kuala Lipis in 1953.
The Prime Minister followed in the footsteps of his late father and has spent more than half his life in politics, 41 years to be exact.
A crowd of about 25,000 Felda settlers and visitors turned up as early as 8am to pay tribute and demonstrate support for to the Prime Minister, in conjunction with the Felda celebrations.
Also present was Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad and Najib's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Today is also the third day of the Felda Settlers’ Day 2017 celebration, themed ‘Ekspresi Felda Negaraku Malaysia', held in front of the Palace of Justice.
The event began on Friday with a range of activities aimed at instilling love for Felda among the younger settler generation.
