KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities have identified 16 informants who allegedly revealed information to outsiders, threatening Sabah's security, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said today.
"In an effort to capture these 16 snitches, we have circulated related information and photographs.
"They are believed to be collaborating and acting as distributors of information that is detrimental to the security of the country," he said.
Shahidan said this in response to an additional question from Barisan Nasional (BN) Sepanggar MP Datuk Jumat Idris at the Dewan Rakyat today.
According to the Arau MP, the government has improved security in the southern Philippines-Malaysia waters.
"We are regularly working with the Philippine government via coordinated-patrolling to monitor the area from time to time.
"We have also carried out operations to ensure safety of our waters is maintained," he said.
Meanwhile, Shahidan reiterated that since December last year, there had been no cases of abduction on the islands of both nations.
"I would like to emphasize, Philipines-Malaysia waters are relatively calm and under control.
"There had been no abductions by militants especially from militant groups like Abu Sayaf." he said.
