KUALA LUMPUR: Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) feeders buses have proven invaluable in helping commuters beat the rush, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said the perks of taking the MRT is the first and last mile connectivity provided by the buses for an unparalleled transit network.
It ensures that the people's daily commute is smooth and comfortable in Greater Kuala Lumpur/ Klang Valley, a region known for some of the worst traffic in the nation.
The buses cover a distance of five kilometers from the radius of each MRT station and the routes are designed in such a way as to serve a particular area as comprehensively as possible, he said.
"The service frequency is between five and 10 minutes during peak hours.
"The buses carry up to 62 passengers each," he said.
Liow added that the service has long operation hours from 5.30am to 11.30pm.
The feeder buses are also equipped with a special space for disabled people (OKU) and monitored by closed-circuit television (CCTV) for security.
The first and last mile connectivity is further complemented by the availability of e-hailing such Grab, Uber and taxi services, he added.
Liow was replying to a question from Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (BN-Setiu) during the Minister's Question Time in Parliament today.
The feeder buses had been introduced with the launch of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) Line in July.
