Sufficient livestock for Hari Raya Aidiladha

PUTRAJAYA: There will sufficient livestock supply for the Hari Raya Aidiladha sacrifice.

Veterinary Services Department (DVS) said based on latest figures, the availability of cattle’s and buffalo’s stood at 23,700 while another

19,718 were imported for the purpose.

"This is brings the total supply of livestock for slaughter at 43,418 heads of cattle and buffalo’s. However it is estimated that only 31,207 would be needed for the purpose," DVS said in a statement today.

On supply for local goats and sheep, 20,200 heads are available now, while another 11,526 were imported, bringing the total to 31,726.

"However, we estimate only 25,174 would be needed for the celebration," the statement read.

The department said a total of 28 DVS slaughter house would be operational throughout Peninsular Malaysia, in which 13 out of the 28, had fulfilled the Export Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS) for the purpose of slaughtering livestock from Australia.

"Additionally, the department had also issued licenses to 60 private slaughter houses throughout peninsular for the purpose of slaughtering sacrificial livestock.

"Besides that, slaughtering to be carried outside slaughter house’s such as mosques, schools, residential areas and other public places would be approved via permit, application" it added.

DVS charges a RM35 fee for each permit.

A total of 180 officers from DVS throughout the country will be inspecting livestocks and meat during Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration, the statement said.
