Revision book not published by the Education Ministry

KUALA LANGAT: The Education Ministry wants the publisher of a revision book that did not list Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as one of former prime ministers to own up and admit their mistake.

Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan said they have also lodged a police report on the matter, which had seen the ministry criticised for allegedly trying to write off Dr Mahathir from history.

He said the ministry want authorities to take action against the publisher as well as against those who spread allegations that the Form Three book on Civic Education and Citizenship was published by the ministry.

"We are waiting for the responsible party to admit their mistake. The ministry did not publish the book, which I believe was published by the private sector. The ministry is still investigating which company was responsible.

"People may forget the history but the ministry won't change the history. We want to educate our children with facts and we cannot simply change it. This issue had been deliberately used by irresponsible parties who spread it (allegation) in the social media," he told reporters at SMK Jenjarom here on Friday.

During the press conference, he also urged the public not to spread fake news and make it a political issue, which he said would create unrest among Malaysians.

On another matter, Kamalanathan said the ministry believed that the engagement of police liaison officers with 402 hotspot schools would be able to put a stop to disciplinary and drug problems at the schools.
