GEORGE TOWN: A 70 year-old Terengganu kayaker, who is on the final leg of a 71-day kayaking expedition around Peninsular Malaysia, made a pit stop at the Kuala Juru fishermen’s jetty here today.
Muhamad @ Mansor Oma¬r, fondly known as “Pak Mansor” in his home state, is making 60 pit stops along the peninsula’s coastline as part of his journey to commemorate Malaysia’s 60th Merdeka.
He also has his sights set on a record for the Oldest Kayaker to Peddle ar¬ound Peninsular Mala¬ysia in the Malaysian Book of Records.
"This expedition covers 1,700km and I have already completed 1,600km. I am deter-mined to achieve my goal.
"My biggest challenge has been the uncer¬tain weather, as (inclement weather) slows me down. Neverthel¬ess, I strongly belie¬ve I can reach Kuala Perlis by Sept 9th to conclude my expedition," he said when met today.
Pak Mansor arrived here from Perak on Aug 31, and he will set off for his next checkpoint – Kuala Muda, Kedah, which is 33km away – today.
