BEIJING: Climate change is part of the recommendations given by the media fraternity to be addressed in the Communist Party of China's (CPC) 19th national congress next month.
During a dialogue themed, "The Communist Party of China and Me", editor Kamal Ahmed from Bangladesh proposed that China should put focus on tackling pollution.
"CPC, as the ruling government, should look into energy efficiency and reducing carbon emission in its development plan.
"As a country that is moving towards innovation, China should also share (their approaches) with other countries to better fight climate change," he said, adding that China had done the right thing by still committing to the Paris climate change accord agreed in 2015.
The accord is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change that deals with greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance starting in the year 2020.
Kamal is among a group of media from 14 countries participating in a two-week Asian Media programme for the One Belt and One Road Initiative.
Part of the programme was visiting Lanzhou district in Gansu province which used to be notorious for its air pollution due to human activities.
Kamal said the positive environment change in Lanzhou testified to the China government's commitment in turning the capital city into a better place for people to live and visit. A deputy editor from Sri Lanka, Kelum Bandara, echoed this sentiment.
Meanwhile, CPC central committee International Department Foreign Affairs Coordination bureau secretary Peng Fei said China and other developing countries are facing similar situations.
"For now, it is natural to see developing countries facing problems such as rush hour (traffic) and pollution, among others.
"That is why China and other countries should work together in tackling these common problems."
Also present was the bureau director general, You Jianhua, who acted as a moderator for the dialogue.
