3.8 magnitude earthquake rattles Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR: A weak earthquake was detected 35km northeast of Tongod, Sabah at 8.25am today.

In a just-released statement, the Malaysian Meteorology Department said the quake, measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale, was probably felt in areas surrounding Tongod and Beluran, Sabah.

The Department also said that a moderate earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale, was detected in Mindanao, the Philippines, 752km north-east of Kinabatangan, Sabah.

It said the quake, detected at 4.47am today, does not pose a tsunami threat. — BERNAMA
