ISKANDAR PUTERI: Employers should be fair and flexible to their workers as a way of maintaining their loyalty with the company.
State Unity and Human Resources Committee chairman R.Vidyananthan said workers' loyalty, especially among skilled workers, required employers to provide better salary, perks and employment benefits that commensurated with their talents.
"Employers, especially in Johor, need to consider offering better salary and rewards based on job performance as a way to retain workers as cross-border employment is inevitable as local skilled workers gets better pay working overseas.
"Many skilled workers tend to seek job across the border like in Singapore where employers offer higher pay and better benefits to our workers.
“Our local employers should at least match or offer better perks to motivate workers to stay," he said.
Vidyanathan was speaking to 100 employers who had pledged their participation in the Job Fair Carnival in Johor, held in conjunction with the Progressive Johor Expo 2017 starting this weekend.
The two-day job fair, from Oct 7, will be at the open space in front of Bangunan Datuk Abdul Rahman Andak in Kota Iskandar.
Vidyanathan said employers comprising various industry players such as retail, manufacturing, biotechnology, oil and gas, finance, tourism and hospitality would be offering over 7,000 job vacancies.
"Walk-in interviews are also encouraged as employers can find suitable candidates regardless of whether they are fresh graduates or looking for career advancement," he said.
He said the job fair would also feature informative career guidance and provide personal consultation on labour laws and human capital development by industry expertise.
