GEORGE TOWN: The body of the 9th victim in the Tanjung Bungah landslide incident has been discovered at 6.20pm.
Rescuers are trying to retrieve the body said to have been crushed by a large boulder.
Fire and Rescue Department assistant director-general (operation and Rescue) Edwin Galan Teruki said with this, the search and rescue (SAR) team is optimistic of finding at least two more victims tonight.
“The ninth victim is found near the 7th and 8th victims, who were crushed by steel beams.
“That is why it is taking a long time for us to retrieve the bodies,” he said.
He said the size of the SAR operation will be reduced as the majority of victims have been recovered.
More than 200 personnel from the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force, SMART team were involved in the SAR operation. s
