SEBERANG JAYA: Two drivers arrested in connection with the factory bus crash near the Juru toll plaza Tuesday morning tested negative for drugs.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Ashan Nik Abdul Hamid told newsmen that the police received the results of the duo's urine test yesterday and are now waiting for Chemical Department's report on their blood samples.
"The blood sample results will take time. We are doing our best to expedite the investigation.
"So far we have taken statements from 26 witnesses. Further investigation is ongoing," he told New Straits Times when contacted today.
Eight factory workers, including a Malaysian died, while 44 others sustained injuries in the accident involving two factory buses.
Police detained two bus drivers, aged 23 and 37, yesterday to facilitate investigation. The duo will be remanded until Friday.
Nik Ros Azhan said the younger driver has three arrest warrants for driving without a driver’s licence, beating the red light and not wearing the seat belt. The other driver has no previous record.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
