GEORGE TOWN: Residents of Miami Green Resort Condominium have called for an end to all development on hillslopes in Penang following numerous landslide incidents, in particular, the recent Tanjung Bungah landslide which claimed the lives of 11 men.
About 10 of the residents gathered in front of the State Legislative Assembly Hall gate on Wednesday to handover the memorandum to the state government to express their worry.
One Leslie Leng, 41, said that there were too many developments on hillslopes around their housing area with more projects slated in the next few months.
He did however admit that the residents did not object to one of the projects when it was initially approved earlier this year but taking into consideration of the recent tragedy, he said the residents now fear for their safety.
"We are living in fear, we might be the next victim. The state has to halt every project on hillslopes until a proper study is done," he said.
