Malaysia Airlines cancels all flights to Bali as Mount Agung volcano spews plume of ash

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will cancel all flights between Kuala Lumpur and Denpasar in Bali today following the volcanic activity at Mount Agung in Bali.

In a statement, MAS said all flights to and from Ngurah Rai International Airport will be cancelled on Nov 27 (Monday).

“The airline is monitoring the situation closely and will adjust its flight operations into and out of Ngurah Rai International Airport when necessary.

“Owing to the situation, Malaysia Airlines will allow affected passengers to a full refund or deferment of travel until end of February 2018, and change of destination (subject to seat availability) to Jakarta, Surabaya or any ASEAN destination Malaysia Airlines flies to.

“For more information, passengers are advised to call 1 300 88 3000 (in Malaysia) or +603 7843 4000 (for outside Malaysia),” it said.

It was reported that the Mount Agung spewed smoke as high as 4,000 metres above its summit today and had disrupted at least 28 flights departing and arriving at the island.

Low-cost carrier AirAsia yesterday cancelled 32 flights and rescheduled two others involving flights from and to Bali and Lombok.

It said affected guests would be notified of their flight status and options available to them via their registered e-mail address.

It said guests whose flights were cancelled were entitled to change to a new travel time on the same route within 30 calendar

days from the original flight time without additional cost and subject to seat availability.

It said guests could also retain the value of their fare in a credit account for future travel with AirAsia.
