BUKIT MERTAJAM: The vehicle registration number PNG1 has received a bid of RM350,000, the highest ever in the state.
Checks at the state Road Transport Department office here found that the bidder was chief executive officer of a property development company Datuk M. Murly, who secured the number.

He said there were a total of 1,554 bidders for the PNG vehicle registration number series which is open for tender until Nov 13.
"Total bids received for PNG is RM1.9 million involving 738 successful bidders.
"PNG1 recorded the highest ever in the state, passing the previous record for PNB1 sold for RM173,800," he said at a press conference today.
He also said PNG5 and PNG9 received the second and third highest bid overall with the winning bids recorded at RM95,000 and RM91,500 respectively.
The reason behind the PNG series' popularity is that it is the short form for 'Penang'.
