KUALA LUMPUR: A 57-year-old Malaysian man was shot dead by Indonesian police in an anti-drug operation in Medan, Indonesia today.
According to a report by Tribun News, North Sumatera police chief, Paulus Waterpauw, said the Malaysian was identified as Chin Yoo Fah, or Acin, who was working as a cook.
“The suspect was believed to be transporting drugs. We had to take definitive action (shooting) as he had tried to escape,” he told a press conference today.
He said the suspect was arrested at Jalan Imam Bonjol, in front of Vihara Borobudur, after an Indonesian accomplice, known as Azhari, 35, was arrested.
Police had seized four kilogrammes of syabu from the suspects.
Police later arrested three more suspects, all Indonesians - Tan Siong Tiong, 45; Joni @ Aguan, 47; and Susanto @ Santo, 37; and seized an unspecified amount of syabu from them.
Paulus said two of the men - Siong Tiong and Joni - were also shot dead when they tried to escape.
