SUNGAI PETANI: Devotees who took part in a Thaipusam chariot procession said they were still shaken by the fireworks explosion on Thursday evening.
One of the victims, M. Murugia, 46, who injured his three fingers, said people were running for their lives when the fireworks suddenly exploded.
Relating to the ordeal, Murugia said he was standing quite a distant from the scene to watch the fireworks display.
"The explosion was quite loud and suddenly I felt sharp pain on my fingers," he said when met at Sultan Abdul Halim Hosptal here.
"We were witnessing the fireworks show when it suddenly exploded.. I saw many people were running for their lives."
Meanwhile, another victim T. Asokumar, 41, said he was together with his sons some 200m away from the fireworks during the incident.
Asokumar said he managed to help a girl who suffered injury on her eyes but was grateful that his sons escaped with minor wounds.
