PUTRAJAYA: Threats will not discourage the Road Transport Department staff and officers from executing their duties.
Its director-general Datuk Seri Shaharuddin Khalid said RTD staff has received all sorts of threats while on duty, but these strong arm tactics will not stop RTD from serving the public.
"The threats usually will not last long and most of these threats are not followed through by those who issue them.
"We do not have the actual numbers of threats received for now. Perhaps, it is time for us to handle threats differently in the near future," he said.
On the recent fire incident in Perak, which saw five vehicles including three belonging to the RTD, badly damaged after what appears to be an act of arson, Shaharuddin said it was premature for him to comment on the case is still under police investigation.
On another matter, Shaharuddin pointed out that heavy vehicles are required to install light reflectors or they could be fined not more than RM300.
"All commercial vehicles have a six-month grace period to install the light reflectors."
He also said the light reflectors allowed has to meet the Sirim MS828:2011 standard.
"We are doing this to reduce road accidents. Road users should also have in their vehicles the safety triangle, which they can use to alert other road users should their vehicle break down."
He said RTD recorded 1,713 rear-end car accident cases just last year alone.
