KUALA TERENGGANU: Malaysia has become a leading higher education destination, attracting tens of thousands of foreign students, thanks to its credible education system and excellent facilities.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said that to date, 100,000 foreign students from 34 countries are studying here.
"Coupled with (Malaysia’s) political and economic stability, foreign students find studying here very comfortable and suitable.
"Our universities also provide credible courses which further boost their confidence," he said at the 30th Parent-Teacher Association of SMK Tengku Bariah in Pasir Panjang.
Present was school principal Mohamad Abdul Ghani and PTA chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabri Alwi, who is also Kuala Terengganu Umno chief and Ladang state assembly Barisan Nasional coordinator.
Idris emphasised that the peace and harmony which prevails in Malaysia also makes it a favoured destination among foreign students.
“We should be blessed that our country is safe and sound,” he added.
He also noted that Malaysian higher education institutions are among the most reputable in the region.
"I am told that (out of Asean’s top) eight universities, five… are in Malaysia," he said, adding that Malaysian universities rank 25th in the world among 36 countries.
Idris later handed over a RM663,000 contribution to the school for the benefit of 663 students who had distinguished themselves with their excellent academic performance.
