Media Prima receives recognition as 8,000 people join run and cycle event

PUTRAJAYA: Media Prima Bhd received special recognition for being the company with the most number of employees taking part in the “Labour Day Run & Ride” event in Dataran Putrajaya today.

Second on the list was Employees Provident Fund and third came SME Development Bank.

The employees of all three companies were among some 8,000 people who took part in the event held in conjuntion with Labour Day, which falls on Tuesday.

The event involved four categories – the 20km and 40km bicycle rides and the 5km and 10km runs.

Socso chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the event was aimed at raising awareness on the importance of practicing a healthy lifestyle thus increasing the productivitiy of employees in the country.

“According to Socso statistics, many employees have non-communicable diseases, so it is our call to organise health awareness programme. This is also to show that we play our roles and responsibilities for everybody including the healthy people, not only when there is death or the person is paralysed and ill.

“In fact, about 15,000 claims were made for non-communicable disease cases annually, where half of it involve death, including sudden death like heart disease. Others include disability that some are unable to work and require treatment,” he said after the flagging off ceremony.

Azman said the number of claims were quite high and worrying.

“This event will at least encourage the employees to take part in healthy activities with their spouse, children and family. I hope they will continue the tradition,” he said.

Present were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, Human Resources Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Mohd Ghazali Abas and Socso chairman Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat.

Also present were Media Prima Group managing director Datuk Kamal Khalid, Media Prima Television Network chief executive officer Johan Ishak, Primeworks Studios chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar and Media Prima Radio Network chief executive officer Seelan Paul.
