BN election campaign goes high tech with AR and holographic images

KUALA LUMPUR: Embracing technology, Barisan Nasional has launched a new way of campaigning for the upcoming 14th general election.

Holographic technology and augmented reality will now be part of the tools the coalition will be using as one way of reaching out to the new generation of younger, more tech-savvy voters.

Called the “Hebatkan Negaraku” application, it is believed to be the first of its kind in Malaysia at least, and is expected to revolutionise the way campaigns are run in Malaysia and beyond.

The state-of-the-art technology will be the digital platform for the coalition to promote their candidates and manifestos.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, in launching the application, said this campaign was aimed to approach younger voters, via a digital platform.

“The app will allow users to view their local parliamentary candidates hologram messages for this looming general election. Voters can access this technology by downloading the ‘hebatnegaraku’ application on their respective devices via Apple’s app store and Android’s play store.

“To use the app, users firstly point their devices to our election posters featuring their respective candidates, the ones with the words ‘hebatkan negaraku’ on them.

“This then brings up a video of the candidates explaining their achievements and local manifestoes based on their respective constituencies,” he said.

He said the app also would post messages from party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, latest news, and information regarding BN during the campaigning period.

Tengku Adnan said eight 10-tonne lorries, laden with equipment for the holographic clips of Najib, would be despatched nationwide during the campaigning period.

“These lorries will be stationed at our ceramah and will project a life-size hologram of Najib to address the crowds. This to make the voters to feel close to the leader,” he said, adding that it was also in line with the 4.0 Industrial Evolution.

He said the AR technology had been used worldwide by developed nations for campaigning and promotions.
