KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak extended his congratulations to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the latter’s appointment as Malaysia’s seventh prime minister.
Najib, via his Twitter account, also voiced his willingness to see a smooth transition of power.
“Just congratulated Tun Mahathir over his appointment as the seventh prime minister. I am willing to help facilitate a smooth transition of power,” he wrote.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was sworn in as Malaysia’s seventh prime minister, in the presence of the Yang di Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V at the Istana Negara, on Thursday night.
Dr Mahathir, 92, made history as it is the second time he has been sworn in as the prime minister, after first helming the post in July 16, 1981. He held the position for 22 years.
In the 14th General Election, Pakatan Harapan win 113 out of 222 parliament seats to form a new Federal government.
