ALOR STAR: Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who led the Kedah Pakatan Harapan (PH) pact to win 18 state seats in the 14th General Election (GE14), is expected to be sworn in as the 13th Menteri Besar of Kedah this afternoon.
According to PH sources, the pact’s national leadership had decided to endorse Mukhriz, the Jitra assemblyman and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) deputy president, from the three names submitted for consideration.
Mukhriz was appointed the 11th Kedah Menteri Besar after Barisan Nasional (BN) wrested Kedah from the Pas-led government five years ago, but was forced to relinquish the post following a mutiny among BN assemblymen.
It is understood that the other two names submitted for consideration are Anak Bukit assemblyman, Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah from PPBM and Gurun assemblyman, Datuk Johari Abdul, who is also the state PKR leadership adviser.
Earlier today, the Sultan of Kedah’s senior private secretary, Datuk Elmi Yusoff issued a statement saying the swearing in ceremony for the Kedah Menteri Besar will be held at Istana Anak Bukit at 4pm today.
He said Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah had consented to the swearing in ceremony to be held this afternoon.
