KUALA LUMPUR: Police are in the process of opening eight safes located in Seri Perdana, the Prime Minister’s official residence, in Putrajaya.
Sources said two locksmiths have been tasked with cracking open the safes. They started work at noon on Friday and the process is still ongoing.
“The investigation is ongoing, we cannot say more at the moment,” said the source.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that a safe located in former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s residence in Jalan Langgak Duta, Taman Duta here, was finally opened today.
The safe, located on the first floor of the residence, was opened after police, with the help of a locksmith, began drilling the safe since 8.30am on Thursday.
The safe had to be drilled open as the owner said the key was lost, and that it had not been opened in 20 years.
Sources said the safe was finally opened at 4pm, and that it contained cash. The source, however, declined to disclose the amount.
Efforts to obtain confirmation from Federal Commercial Crime Department chief, Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh, are unsuccessful for now.
Meanwhile, another vehicle with policemen from the Technical Assistance Division (D6) was seen entering the compound of the home around 10pm.
