Dr Wan Azizah clocks in for duty as new women's minister

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today reported for duty as the country's new Women and Family Development Minister.

She arrived at the ministry's building at 8.50am and she was greeted by secretary-general Datuk Suriani Ahmad, senior officers and staff.

A short 'doa' recitation was held before Dr Wan Azizah, who is also deputy prime minister, was brought to visit the ministry's gallery.

The PKR and Pakatan Harapan president then clocked in for work at 9am and was ushered to her new office at Level 38.

A task handover ceremony took place between Dr Wan Azizah and former Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.

On Tuesday, Dr Wan Azizah reported for duty as the first ever female Deputy Prime Minister, a day after she led a line-up of 13 cabinet ministers in taking their oath of office, loyalty and secrecy before Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V at Istana Negara.

On Tuesday, Dr Wan Azizah gave her assurance that the new Pakatan Harapan government will retain the National Permata Programme (Permata) for gifted children.

She had said the programme will first be audited and reviewed before any further decisions are made.

She had also said the government may move the programme, which is currently under the Prime Minister’s Office, to her ministry as it seemed more suitable and relevant.

Permata is the brainchild of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
