KUCHING: After a month in power, Pakatan Harapan (PH) government under Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has given hope that Malaysia will be alright, says a political analyst.
Datuk Peter Minos said he was confident that under the PH government, Malaysia would be able to repair the many ruins and damage left by the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
He said he could almost see that two years from now Malaysia would be going forward and running and that growth and prosperity would return to the country.
“The culprits and the criminals will be punished and that justice will be returned and restored and that life will return to normal.
“The Tun M golden days of yesteryears will come about eventually,” Minos, who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) former deputy publicity chief, told Bernama here.
Minos said the new PH federal government was not just a fresh wind blowing over Malaysia, but could also be likened as a divine intervention at hand and at work in rescuing and saving Malaysia from total ruin and damage.
He said when Tun Dr Mahathir came in as the prime minister, it was a truly big relief and Malaysians were jubilant and happy because a bad government was removed and relieved because there was a high hope that a new and fresh beginning was ushered in and a new and brighter future was assured.
“Yes that was the feeling which lasts till now, one month later,” he said.
Minos, who is also Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman, said it had been very tough from day one for PH government and Tun Dr Mahathir as too much damage was done by the previous government.
“But overall PH government and Tun Dr Mahathir have done reasonably well,” he said.
Minos said notables in the federal cabinet were Minister of Finance Lim Guan Eng and Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, both of whom had quality in education and experience.
He said obviously Lim had a tough job in house cleaning, especially on 1MDB scandal, plus the national debts and financial issues, while Azmin had to look into the bad mega projects and review things.
“Tun Dr Mahathir has also roped in a new Attorney-General (AG), which gives much hope in seeing the rule of law is restored,” said Minos, adding that Malaysians are generally happy with the new PH government.
“The people know it is very hard taking over a government that was much damaged by financial scandals and abuses of power, but Tun Dr Mahathir can do it. He has it all - brains, experience, ability and wisdom,” added Minos.
According to Minos, the only thing is for PH government to return Sarawak’s rights on oil and gas and not to force on Sarawak Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974 and also return in full Sarawak powers under the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“If this is done, I think Malaysia will see once again a happy and bright future,” he concluded. -- BERNAMA
