KUALA LUMPUR: Wholesalers are still maintaining the prices of various types of fish at the Chow Kit market during the Hari Raya festive season.
In a survey by NSTP, fish prices remain the same except for tuna increased from RM9 per kilogramme to RM10 due to high demand while other fishes such as mackerel, sardines, pomfret, bream and sea bass still fetch the same price at between RM8 to RM17 per kilogramme
Fish seller, Faisal Amri, 40, said the price of wet items including fish was still the same over the last few months as not all wet goods were subjected to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) hence the average price of goods in the wet market were still maintained at the same prices.
"The price change depend on the wholesalers and prices for fish or shrimp will be cheaper due to oversupply."
"Now the demand for wet item is not that much, so the price is normal. If our customers bargain, the price cannot be reduced much because they do not make much profit", he said.
Meanwhile, Suparno Saimin, 54, said he and other business partners did not receive any complaints against market prices.
"Customers also understand the current situation and they feel the price offered is still reasonable. Maybe next week, more wet items such as beef and vegetables will arrive and so we expect its price to fall," he said.
