Aigoo! Sabah mosque bans tourists no thanks to 'sexy K-pop' dance [NSTTV]

KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu City Mosque, a popular tourist spot in the city, is now closed to all foreign visitors starting Sunday.

The decision was made following a 10-second video showing two women, believed to be foreigners, inappropriately dressed and showcasing some sexy K-pop dance moves on the wall of the mosque.

Mosque chairman Datuk Jamal Tun Sakaran today made the announcement through a statement on the closure to foreigners, to tour agents here.

Apart from taxis registered with the mosque, tour buses, Grab cars and other vehicles are not allowed to park or bring tourists into the mosque compound.

“It is disappointing to witness the acts of some of these tourists, despite being reminded to observe proper decorum and rules at the mosque,” he added.

It is estimated about 500 to 1,000 tourists visit the mosque following an agreement from the management, which was meant to deliver the positive message about Islam to tourists.

He added other initiatives included providing a visitors’ centre, tour guide, jubah, baju kurung, head scarves, and kopiah for tourists.

Jamal also added the mosque will add more personnel at the compound to ensure the public comply with the restrictions.

“We will have further discussions with tour agents to find win-win solution for all, both on preaching Islam teachings and tourism sector.”
