One month amnesty period for employers, employees to register with Socso

KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) will not extend its one month amnesty period to any employers who failed to register their company and employees for protection.

Chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the amnesty period would only last for one month between July 1 and July 31, 2018.

“This is the 10th Ops Kesan and we would not extend it beyond the one month grace period.

“This is the opportunity for all unregistered employers and employees to register as the one month period is the only chance given,” he said.

Azman was speaking to reporters at the Socso Hari Raya celebration in Menara Perkeso, here, today.

He said if any employers with at least one employee failed to register, action will be taken accordingly.

Azman said failure of employers to register their workers will see Socso personnel making a visit to their work premise from August onwards for registration purposes.

“If they fail to do so, a compound will be issued and if they do not pay the compound, they will be taken to court. If found guilty, they can be fined RM10,000 or jailed or both,” he said.

The amnesty period and Ops Kesan is undertaken annually to enable employers to register at any of the 53 Socso branches nationwide.

Azman said as off December, 6.8 million active employees and 435,801 employers are registered with Socso nationwide.

He said some 10 per cent of employers nationwide have failed to register their company and employees.
