Mixed reaction to recognition of UEC

KUALA LUMPUR: A survey about the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) shows that more than 75,000 people are against recognition of the certification.

Through a polling survey conducted at the www.pendidik2u.my portal, a majority of the voters disagreed with the government’s plan to recognise UEC.

The portal made a preliminary survey on social media among teachers, and found that a majority of them did not support UEC being recognised.

Of a total number of 127,224 voters, 59 per cent disagreed with the recognition of UEC, and 41 per cent (51,625 voters) agreed.

The polls were closed yesterday at 12pm.

The Pendidikan2u Telegram group, which has more than 41,000 followers, said it intended to close the poll last week but many requested for the polling period to be extended.

Earlier, various parties demanded a thorough study to be conducted before any recognition was given to the UEC, for fear of causing confusion in the country’s education system.

The UEC recognition was among Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto during their campaign for the 14th General Election.
